Facts About DUI DWI

DUI is defined as driving under the influence of alcohol or any kind of controlled substance. Drunk Driving is illegal and very dangerous to you and others driving on the same streets as you are. All 50 states and the District of Columbia have laws defining it as a crime to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) at or above a proscribed level, usually 0.08 percent. A DUI Lawyer can help defend you in court.

If you need legal assistance regarding this matter, contact one of our DWI attorneys near you.

At .08 BAC a person is impaired. Vision, balance, reaction time, hearing, judgment and self-control are seriously affected at .08 BAC. Critical driving tasks, such as concentrated attention, speed control, braking, steering, gear changing and lane tracking are also negatively affected.

A drunk driving offense, sometimes called driving while intoxicated, DWI, or driving under the influence, DUI, really has three general meanings:

  • Driving with any amount of alcohol in your system which causes your physical abilities to be impaired in any way.
  • Driving with a level of alcohol in your system which amounts to a measurement of.08 of blood alcohol content. To be guilty of this offense, absolutely no impairment of any of your physical abilities is necessary. You may well be the world's most talented, careful and safest driver, but if your blood alcohol content registers .08 or above you are guilty of a criminal offense.
  • Driving with drugs in your system or with a combination of drugs and alcohol, no matter what the amounts of those substances may be, where your physical abilities have become impaired in any way.

In 2002, an estimated 17,419 people died in alcohol–related traffic crashes—an average of one every 30 minutes. These deaths constitute 41 percent of the 42,815 total traffic fatalities.

Issues and topics related to DUI law include:

  • DWI
  • Speeding
  • Controlled Substance Abuse
  • Breathalyzer Exams
  • Manslaughter
  • Alcohol Accidents
  • Automobile Collisions

If you have been charged with a DUI ticket, it is suggested to consult legal assitance. If you have any questions or if you would like to learn about your legal rights in a DWI situation, contact one of our DWI attorneys today.
